WHAT WE ACTUALLY READ

Plainly, so you can decide.

  1. 1. We search, we do not browse. We ask Google for emails that look like bills, receipts, renewals and subscriptions from the past 12 months. Emails outside that search are never returned to us and never opened.
  2. 2. We open only those, once. For the emails the search returns, we read the message to find the amount. The subject line alone will not do it: "Your receipt from Adobe" never says S$54.99. That is why the amount has to come from inside.
  3. 3. We keep the payment details, not the email. Merchant, amount, currency, date, billing cycle, and a reference so you can open the original yourself. The message text is used once and let go. It is never stored.
  4. 4. Then we let go of the key. The one-hour access Google issues lives in your own browser and is deleted the moment your report is ready. We keep no password and no lasting access to your email, and we never ask for a bank login.

If a product tells you it can find a S$54.99 charge by reading subject lines alone, it is either not finding much or not telling you everything. We would rather be exact.

WHY I BUILT THIS

I kept paying for things I never decided to pay for.

It started with the shopping apps. A little here, a little there, and every one of them felt reasonable on its own. Then the subscriptions: the ones I signed up for once and never thought about again, quietly renewing while I got on with my life.

The last straw was a late notice from IRAS. It was sitting in my inbox the whole time. I never opened it. By the time I saw it, I was paying a penalty on top of the tax, and the worst part was that nothing had gone wrong except my attention.

So I built Worth It?. Not to make me feel guilty about spending, and not to tell me to live on less. Just to notice the things I would otherwise miss: the bill going unpaid, the price that crept up, the two services doing the same job, the thing I already own sitting in a cupboard.

Not what is frivolous according to somebody else. What you repeatedly value, regret, use and forget. Advice that fits you, and sometimes that advice is: buy it and enjoy it.
